This week we talk about Chinese nationals, missed opportunities on the Kellog's tour, a new gymnastics routine app and the FIG's post-Olympic report. We bring you the second part of our interview with Olympic gold medalist and NBC commentator, Tim Daggett. He shares his thoughts on the code, the loss of the 10, cheating and kindness in coaching.

I’m loving this show so far. I can’t wait till next week!
Thanks Sami!
I love everything gymnastics and this will be great. Please take all the “ums” and “uhs” out of your broadcast, though. Either prepare a rough copy of what you want to say beforehand or practice speaking without those filler words on a daily basis.
Thanks for the constructive criticism. We are new at this and appreciate the feedback. Glad you like the show!
I am LOVING this podcast!! I have no one to talk to about gymnastics (except the online community) so it’s really nice to finally have something like this, where I can feel like I’m having a conversation with people who know and love the sport as much as me. Keep up the great work!
Just curious… When Tim Daggett said that the gymnasts could be nicer, was he talking abou the cattiness of the women’s team? (towards each other?) or rather amongst all competitors. I’ve always thought their hugs were a little fake… But it’s something I’ve just gotten used to.
He wasn’t actually talking about the gymnasts at all, but rather how the elite program is run. Thanks for the question. Hope you are enjoying the show!
I love this, however wanted to comment on the tour having a soundtrack.. They use to for one of the tours.. was it 2000? I can’t quite remember the year. However, it’s just not feasible in terms of money. It’s already extremely expensive to secure rights to music so just to purchase the rights for the tour was probably a huge cost. In order to sell the same tunes over and over again isn’t just possible
Loved the intrerview with Tim Daggett. My son goes to the preschool program at his gym. The preschooler’s put on a little show at the end of the year, commentated by Tim as if he was at Nationals. “Here comes (insert name here), look at that donkey kick! Amazing form!
Additionally, Tim’s staff is outstanding, very encouraging to all of the kids. They really practice what Tim preaches in term of encouragement with discipline. The other day I heard one of the head coaches in the waiting room speaking to one of the new level sevens about working hard and taking the risk. “The turns you take today are marching towards tomorrow’s goals.”
LOL! That is the cutest thing ever! We love hearing about great gyms.
You need to get rid of Spanny. She is not funny and nothing is worse then people who think they are funny when they are not.
We’ll have to agree to disagree. Thanks for listening!
I found Tim’s interview really interesting. I’m a fan of gymnastics but not hard core and I got lost at one point. When a question was asked about the double front women’s vault and Tim said “she should have lost five points” who was he talking about? No one ever mentioned who they were speaking of.
Thanks!
