I couldn’t find the stats on this anywhere so I tried to calculate it myself and didn’t get anywhere near the medals deficit for men vs women that Jessica mentioned in the EF day 2 episode. The only inaccuracies I’m aware of in my sheet (here) are that some events can award varying numbers of medals depending on whether alternates were used, but that shouldn’t be ‘biased’ one way or the other.
I'm having trouble Googling that study as well, but these two articles--while not addressing the medal imbalance directly--point to other inequalities that need to be addressed. Of note is that the Paris Paralympics will have a 42/58 women/men split, so there's still work to be done there.

In Paris, there will be 329 medal events, 152 of them will be for women and 20 will be mixed gender.
