I am sorry for being dense, but I am confused by the new fantasy set-up and I have questions....
I do want to mention that I was a Math major in college, and a former high school Math teacher, so it isn't the numbers but rather the wording that is a little unclear to me.
1) If I pick 6 AA and 6 on each event, don't I have 7 people on each event total?
Or is what you are doing counting the best 5 of 6 on each individual event and then separately the best 5 of 6 of my AA people?
So my max score would be 50 V + 50 UB + 50 BB + 50 FX + 200 AA = 400?
2) If we pick 6 all arounders and as, an example, the following scenario happens:
Only 4 of them actually go all around.
The other two gymnasts do events that compliment, so one does V and FX for a total of 19.8 while the other does UB and BB for a total of 19.7.
Is the 5th AA score the 19.8, or could the two scores be combined to make a single AA of 39.5? I am guessing not, but it would be nicer...
There are MANY other scenarios of course, but the question is, do we just get the 5 highest total scores for the 6 AA gymnasts?
Here I want to mention that, with the increased number of scholarships, it seems that it is LESS likely that as many gymnasts will be doing AA. So this is a real guessing game and a LOT of people are going to end up with AA scores closer to 10, 20, or 30 if we are not allowed to combine scores from gymnasts. Having listened to most of the coach interviews on allthingsgympod, it seems that many coaches are planning to "save" their gymnasts and not have them do AA every week.
3) When will lineups close each week?
THANX!
Laura
I have no answers but I’m interested to see the response to this. I was surprised by the AA category being added this year and it’s going to be a challenge for NCAA fantasy for sure!
I am also curious when lineups will close. It has varied in the past based on meet schedules for the week, so in particular I’m curious about our deadline for Week 1. It’s going to take me some time and thought to put a roster together 😂
@laura-leventer @meagan-musick Good questions.
Thank you for asking. Think of each category as their own pool of potential points. There is no cross pollinating. So if you pick an athlete for AA and you also put them in your BB lineup. And they, for example, fall on beam. They could potentially still end up with a high enough AA score out of your six athletes to keep their score, but dropped BB score out of your six BB athletes.
You're right that strategy-wise this makes things difficult. You might find that the smaller schools might be where you grab your AA athletes and the big names fill out your individual apparatus. That's what we hope makes this fun and challenging.
We will have the roster lock dates posted soon, but week 1 will lock no earlier than 1 hour before the Minnesota, Iowa @ Utah meet on Jan. 2 at 6pm PT. We will try and lock it closer to the start time. Week one doesn't have all of the teams competing so it will make putting your first roster together a bit constraining. For reference, we use the Road to Nationals schedule as our guide: https://roadtonationals.com/results/schedule/1
Hope this helps, please let us know if you have any other questions
@coop thank you. Perhaps my example is not clear. I am not trying to cross pollinate from the different pools of points but rather within the same pool if some of my AA gymnasts don’t end up going all around. The question is can I patch together an AA score between two of those gymnasts I chose in my AA pool. But I am guessing the answer is no. Thank you again.
@laura-leventer Gotcha. Yeah, the answer to that question is no. We hope the 6 up 5 count helps to prevent people from getting zeros, but that will obviously still happen.
We'll give this AA spot a try and see how it unfolds. This is something we can reconsider if people hate it.
Sorry if I’m being dense, but one additional follow up question for the AA. If an athlete we have in the AA spot only competes two events, will we get a 0 or will we get their cumulative points for the two events they did compete? I believe it was the latter for other GymCastic fantasy games that included AA but not sure I’m remembering correctly.
Also, obviously I’ll probably have my answer after week 1 but was just curious 😂

Thanks for asking this! That's my question too - if I have an athlete in the AA spot but only winds up competing BB & FX, and for math's sake say she gets 10s on both events, do I get 20pts for her, or do I get 0 because she didn't compete in AA?
This is interesting - it seems that the winners will be the people who can choose 5 gymnasts who get an all-around score. Even if you pick all 10.0 EF scores you will immediately be 39+ points behind if you pick 2 athletes who don't do AA that week.
Are Tier costs final? The AA has Tier 4 at $3000, but individual events are Tier 4 at $2000. Is that accurate?
@bhying These are the prices for now. I think mentioning the tiers in the description makes it more confusing than it needs to be. It might be simpler to state prices range from $7,500 - $1,500. But you're correct, in the AA it's $3k and in apparatus they are $2k for those "tiers." We typically do at least one price adjustment during the season once people are competing and we have new data. We'll let everyone know when that happens so lineups can be adjusted.
Will there be a Week 1 Wednesday fantasy-focused episode this week?
I don't want to be a Camila or anything, but the AA component makes me want to pull my hair out. I appreciate how hard you work Factchecker and thank you for everything you do for us, but there are like a thousand college gymnasts and I'm feeling a tad overwhelmed at the thought of basically adding a new event. Don't get me wrong, I love when AA is added for elite competitions, but that's different.
I know this is for fun, but I would like to think my spreadsheets are spencer certified as I spend quite a bit of time on my lineups. It was already hard enough because its gymnastics and the teams don't announce who is competing before the competition [Thanks Obama] so a lot of it is guesswork, and now we have to guess who is competing AA too? I'll try it but right now I'm about to pull my hair out listening back to podcasts and watching all the "Meet the so-and-so" teams just to see who could potentially be in a lineup. Okay, I'm done ranting. I know I take this way too seriously, but I LIVE for college gymnastics season!
(Also, if you can't tell the "Thanks Obama" was a total joke as everything is still blamed on him...ten years later. VIVA LA RESISTANCE!)
@hailey-sen I get it. We're trying it out for this season and we'll see how it goes. We might dump the AA moving forward. Appreciate the feedback and good luck!
FYI, most of the Arizona gymnasts were input "last name, first name" into Fantasizr.
Feedback: Thank you so much for all your work in making a fun game! As I'm picking my lineups, I am feeling that the balance is off. There is not enough budget and not enough cheap athletes. I don't have a single $7500 athlete and it's taking me hours to pore through the rankings to find $1500 gymnasts who even compete on the event. Could we halve the number of $7500 and $5000 athletes and shift everyone down a rung so it doesn't feel so much like a tedious work assignment?
@julie-spray Hi Julie. Week 1 is a bit difficult because not all of the schools are competing. Things should get easier in week 2.
It's too late for us to make price adjustments since other people have already set their lineups, but we will do a price adjustment at some point during the season and we will take this into consideration. Thank you for the feedback.
Did I miss draft? I know I’m late to the game but have been trying to figure it out and can’t find how to draft a team, so I figured I missed it?
