I am sorry for being dense, but I am confused by the new fantasy set-up and I have questions....
I do want to mention that I was a Math major in college, and a former high school Math teacher, so it isn't the numbers but rather the wording that is a little unclear to me.
1) If I pick 6 AA and 6 on each event, don't I have 7 people on each event total?
Or is what you are doing counting the best 5 of 6 on each individual event and then separately the best 5 of 6 of my AA people?
So my max score would be 50 V + 50 UB + 50 BB + 50 FX + 200 AA = 400?
2) If we pick 6 all arounders and as, an example, the following scenario happens:
Only 4 of them actually go all around.
The other two gymnasts do events that compliment, so one does V and FX for a total of 19.8 while the other does UB and BB for a total of 19.7.
Is the 5th AA score the 19.8, or could the two scores be combined to make a single AA of 39.5? I am guessing not, but it would be nicer...
There are MANY other scenarios of course, but the question is, do we just get the 5 highest total scores for the 6 AA gymnasts?
Here I want to mention that, with the increased number of scholarships, it seems that it is LESS likely that as many gymnasts will be doing AA. So this is a real guessing game and a LOT of people are going to end up with AA scores closer to 10, 20, or 30 if we are not allowed to combine scores from gymnasts. Having listened to most of the coach interviews on allthingsgympod, it seems that many coaches are planning to "save" their gymnasts and not have them do AA every week.
3) When will lineups close each week?
THANX!
Laura
@tiki_boy82yahoo-com The dates and times the teams lock for each week can be found here:

@tiki_boy82yahoo-com You didn't miss anything...there is no "draft" the way certain sportsball fantasy teams work. Just join the public league (or go private, whichever), and start adding gymnasts to your lineup. Anyone can have any combination of gymnasts as long as you don't exceed the budget. You can set it and forget it (choose one lineup for each event for the whole season) or you can go back in and change them every week, or however you want to do it. There's a separate post that shows the deadlines for locking the lineups so just check that and be sure your lineup is what you want it to be before those deadlines. Good luck!
@tiki_boy82yahoo-com no you have until Friday at like 5pm to draft for week 1
ahhh..so just to be clear, if we pick an athlete for AA their scores will not be used on the team event total?? 🙃
Just want to know if I have this straight. It’s essentially two separate games within one game. You get a total AA Score and a total individual team score and they are added together?
I draft 6 AA gymnast. Then I draft my individuals team. I can use a gymnast twice, once in the AA and once on an individual event.
I've played before so I know how the individual teams we draft will be scored. Can you review for me how the AA portion will be scored?
Contrary to other post I’m actually excited to see how this AA portion will play out.
With all of this conversation going on, I just wanted to hop on here and reiterate that I really appreciate the fantasy game and acknowledge the hard work that goes on in the background to make it happen.
I’m a bit thrown by the addition of the AA and I think it’s going to be quite the challenge in the NCAA setting. One strategy will definitely be looking for schools with smaller rosters and ones who don’t build their team with specialists to help ensure a score. I don’t love that our fantasy scores won’t be comparable to a typical college score out of 200. But I’m also looking forward to seeing how the first few weeks play out.
Thank you for all you do! I have played the GymCastic NCAA fantasy game since its inception and it’s so fun seeing how you do week to week and finding those dark horse performers. I also love the updates this year with adding school, conference, and athlete class. Happy handstands!
I am hoping we see 2 different scores:
1. Your individual team score that you can still compare to an NCAA team score out of 200.
2. Your AA score
These 2 will be added together for your weekly total score.
Im so excited for the season to start! The amount of work that goes into this fantasy league must be enormous! We appreciate you!!
Everyone remember to donate if you can 🙂
I appreciate the salary increase, but man that was hard for this first week, especially with AA added in. So many unknowns. I did my best and had to guess a lot so we'll see just how many 0s I can get in one week... 🤣 Excited to get started tonight!
@michelle-geise Yeah, week 1 is particularly hard because so many teams are not competing. Best of luck!
Thanks for the reply fact checker! Honestly though - week 1 should have been a practice week. Literally no one is competing! Just an idea for next year! 🙂
Hi, agree with other posts that the addition of AA and limited teams in week 1 made it hard to make line ups.
An FYI Clara Hong for Towson isn't on the roster as she was a senior last year, I made the mistake of adding her to beam.
@coop I appreciate how much work this must be, so this is not a complaint per se, but rather some feedback. With this week being harder, I looked for some of the lesser known gymnasts from teams that were competing. I was surprised to see that gymnasts with low averages last season (as low as 9.5) were still set at $4000. There doesn't seem to be as much separation from the 9.9 gymnasts down to the 9.5 gymnasts as there was with last season's numbers. It added another layer of difficulty to an already difficult week, and am hoping it will be a little easier from here with more teams!
@jessica-lund I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Looking more closely, I'm wondering whether a few rosters weren't updated yet at the time that the salaries were set. Temple, Towson, and Pitt all seem to have athletes who graduated or are no longer on the roster. Something I'll need to be more careful about.
Lauren O'Brochta (Iowa State) is listed as Lauren O'Brachata.
I did not take into account that teams weren't competing week 1. Oh well. 🤣
Hi all, first timer here I need all the help I can get! Do we just guess what gymnasts might be in the lineups or is there a way to see what the likely line-ups are for each team? For example, will a team post their intended line up at some point or is it a game-day decision? Hope this doesn't cause too many eye rolls! 🙂
@sara-mehl Hi Sara. Some teams do post their lineups, but it's usually relatively soon before the meets. You can catch them on social media or you can find the official lineups submitted to scorekeeping sites like https://virti.us/
We try and keep the lineups open until about 15 minutes before the first meet of the week begins... which, of course, doesn't help if you're trying to select an athlete who competes the next day and the team holds their roster until then.
Best of luck!
Just wanted to say congratulations to Spencer on winning this week's Fantasy!
