What We’re Talking About

This column is getting out a little late this week because Lexy Ramler is on the TV screen at the same time. For Prod’s sake… what gym-beauty serum is being added to the water of the Big 10 schools? And Wolverines, save some for the rest of the pack. It looks like Michigan is on the last-year-was-no-fluke-tour.

Jordan Chiles changed up her vault. Rachel Baumann won the Baumann family Olympics by getting a 10 on floor. Brooklyn Moors debuted her I-hate-going-backwards beam routine that Aliya should have copied. LSU didn’t compete again, but we can’t wait to see Sami Durante and Haleigh Bryant come back.

Simone Biles showed off some twisting in her IG story this week! 🎉

Feelings

  • Is a unitard revolution coming to NCAA by way of Brockport sophomore, Naimah Muhammad?
  • Auburn is more than the Suni Show.
  • Phoebe Jakubczyk’s uneven bars is the most elite routine being done in college.
  • Leanne Wong is becoming more Leanne Wong every day and we’re here for it.
    • We do need to have a talk about the beam composition though.

Facts

  • After 5 falls in a row, Georgia has a balance beam situation (or there was a ghost).
  • Jade Carey has posted the highest all-around score in the nation with a 39.800.
    • It’s also an Oregon State record.
    • It’s no surprise she has more NIL 💰 than any football or basketball player at either Oregon school.
  • Everyone needs a Jordan Chiles in their corner like she’s there for Jade.
  • Western Michigan posted their highest team score ever: 196.225
  • Long Island University, in their second season, has posted their highest score ever: 194.200
  • West Point Gymnastics on the Statue of Liberty.

Awards

  • Making Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Worthy of its Name: Sam Phillips

Quotes

“School administrators have met with the Bruins’ gymnastics team ‘multiple times’ over the past 3½ months.” ~ LIZA DAVID, UCLA TEAM SPOKESPERSON

In response to the still opaque situation happening at UCLA and the athlete transfer to LSU.

“You guys have been great, great winners lots of times. Today, we need to be great losers.” ~ K.J. KINDLER, OKLAHOMA COACH

What K.J. told the team after they fell to No. 2 ranked Utah.

“It’s for sure making the podium, although it might be like it’s getting to finals and everyone’s super impressed and then it just rolls off the ground into the judges and that’s not going to help it.” ~ JESSICA O’BEIRNE, YOU KNOW WHO!

Jessica was asked to relate a tiny bark beetle larva to gymnastics for NPR. Challenge accepted!
