So without intending to take anything away from Hezly and her accomplishments, I am so tired of reading everywhere that she was the first to win championships back to back since Simone Biles. The phrasing makes it sound like we are supposed to think that has been a long time and it is a rare thing. Simone won in 2023/2024, and Hezly won in 2025/2026. So she is the second consecutive back to back champion.
It has been awhile; Simone's won every national championship that she's competed (since 2013). I do think it's an accomplishment regardless, but it's more a testament to Simone's dominance for over a decade that made it take so long to have another.
