I'm writing a series of romance books set in the NCAA gymnastics universe. I'm a long-term casual gymnastics fan, but I've been following the sport a lot more closely the last two years, so I'm pretty familiar with the sport in general, but I'm looking for any visual resources online that can help me learn the names of skills.

One of the characters in my book coming out in December is a former gymnast, but most of the gymnastics stuff is told from the other character's point of view, so I can just describe things, but when I'm inside the gymnast's head, I need to know what things are actually called. Emoji

For anyone interested, the first two books in the series are scheduled to come out in February and April. They're Sapphic (women with women) romances.

Anyhoo, does anyone know of a good place to find videos of specific skills?

Also, I know Spencer has a clickable code of points on his site, but is there somewhere that lists the most common skills in NCAA (ie, not elite-level skills)? Thanks! 😀

Fun! A few quick toughts...Spencer's clickable code of points is great for this. It includes every skill, not just the elite skills...so all the skills an NCAA gymnast might perform will be in there (and his gifs often feature college gymnasts). In each entry, Spencer includes a "known as" section, which could be very helpful, as it gives some of the nicknames that gymnasts and coaches use in place of more formal names (e.g. "double lay," "tsuk," "full in," "chush," etc.) As far as getting a good understanding of the skills that are most common in the NCAA, watching a ton of meets and following the athletes on social media (as I'm sure you're already doing!) would be a great way to get familiar with the lingo and the types of skills they tend to perform. The comments section of Instagram posts showing routines and practice skills will often include gymnast shorthand language about skills that could be useful as well. Good luck!

@emily-lee I actually hadn't thought about social media. (I very rarely use it, and really only for author stuff.)  Thanks!
