Don’t get me wrong you’re great but I think if one of the top gymnasts from last quad came back for competition it’ll be correct firstly speak about her form, confidence, routines but not about her leotard…

There’s so many things wrong with this episode.

To name just two:

First, one of the best gymnasts of the last quad makes a comeback and you guys don’t even have the decency to talk about the actual skills she did? For gods sakes, she did a BHS+ARABIAN connection on beam! But no, you just rave on het leotard because that’s CLEARLY so much more important than the fact that’s she’s finally back.

And seriously, I knew Spanny was a USA Stan, but now I realize that she also has short term memory loss and is essentially blind to good choreography, too. Seriously, has she even seen Mustafina’s floor routines these past few years? Each one has had different choreography overall, AND she changes the choreography of the same routine from performance to performance. That Spanny thinks its all the same and not memorable just shows how blinded she is by her obvious distaste for Russian gymnasts. And seriously is she deaf, too? Because last I checked, Final Hour sounds NOTHING like Queen of Hearts. Just saying.

I know you’re all not fans of Russian gymnastics, but you should at least portray them fairly. Jesus Christ.

I got to say, I was originally looking to hear Spanny again on this podcas, but now that she’s back, im not too happy about it.

Mustafina does the same rolling around and witch hands in every routine. The music is different, but the poses and spread eagles remain. Continue to be bothered with the dominance of S. Tampson on the truth of gymnastics.

Have you ever heard about personal style of a gymnast? Larissa has the same waving moves in all her routines since 2012, Simone does the same karate chops under different music, Vanessa’s choreo never changes for many-many years, also Spanny’s anti-Russianism never changes for years.

So disrespectful towards Mother Russia. Please do not bring back Spanny or talk about Russian gymnastics if you can’t do so in a fair manner. I’ve lost interest in this podcast.

I listen to every episode and Iove to hear you guys
However I must say that the way you guys portrayed Russian championships and the Tokyo world cup wasn´t correct.
You didn´t talked about it like you did with the british championships and how you do it with the US nationals or any other world cup. I was expecting alot more from this episode

And we were expecting a lot more from the current World and Olympic silver medal team at their national championships. ‘Tis pity they’re whores.

It´s not about leotards, it´s about gymnastics.

Maybe you guys should stick to what you know, which seems to be USA and college gymnastics. Everything else is a bit out of your league.

I’ve got a lot of love for Bailie Key’s new chorreo, although I’m still hoping to see just a tiny bit of personality in performance to make it a good routine as opposed to a well choreographed one. Can’t agree with it being the best elite routine in years though, doesn’t top Afanaseva, Henandez, or Catherine Lyons for me.
Komova’s flick arabian definitely deserved a few seconds less on the leo to fit in a mention.

I guess I should be used to Americans being aaallll a about America always, but it was kind of disappointing that almost the entire Russian Nationals discussion (good and bad) was focused about a leo because it looked “American”.

We get it; god bless the freedom county and the greatest civilization in the history of the universe and blah blah blah, but there is a world outside that’s worth waking up to.

Surely, there’s more to Russian Nationals than a red, white and blue leotard.

Sure, Spanny is entitled to her own opinion, but her opinion ceases to matter when she stops giving everyone a fair chance.

It’s such a shame that gymcastic has not been able to talk about everyone fairly recently. We get it; USA wins everything; USA is the best at everything; USA is the greatest; USA should rule the world forever.

But this podcast does NOT style itself as an American gymnastics podcast; it only styles itself as a gymnastics podcast.

If the podcast considered itself to be SOLELY American and clearly said it to be so, there would be no reason to be annoyed with their misrepresentation of the rest of the world.

But the fact that they consider themselves to be about gymnastics all over the world and yet STILL portray everyone but USA fairly is wrong. Absolutely, completely wrong.

Especially with this amount of backlash to this episode, I sincerely hope they address it in the next episode.

LMAO, so many butt hurt fans here. Gymcastic always talks about every nation fairly,as they did with the recent Brit Champs, and they’re obviosuly fans of several intl athletes. But the Russian Champs was filled with so much overscoring it, to even analyze any of it too seriously is moot, as those scores were an absolute joke. I know a few are mad, but consider that for jeselo they spent a pretty minute talking about flag-aggedon because it was a controversy. So Komova in an american leo turned out to be the most noteworthy controversy of the meet, thus they discussed it. I’m gonna be honest, Komova’s return was drowned out by over generous scoring, Grishina’s acl tear, and PacRims and NCAA Champs. Before all those other things became apparent, the gymternet was blowing up about Komova, but then came Grishy’s injury and we moved away from her from there…

Also, I think the general current fatigue with Mustafina is because her fans are batshit crazy and if they’re not throwing her in our faces they keep blowing up on everyone who isn’t in love with her. Spanny is entitled to her opinion and honestly, I’ve heard others, Russian stans and not-so-Russian stans, utter similar things about Musty’s unfitness, or how similar her choreography is on FX.. So her opinion is shared and not so far fetched. What’s the point of an opinion if it doesn’t always agree with yours. Everyone sure does seem okay if its calling out any other nation. But god forbid it’s “mother russia” as some other commenter said, then you’r being unfair. But its still her opinion, right? And that’s what she’s on the show to give, right?

Are you seriously going to talk about overscoring at Russian Nationals when PacRims is just absolute bullshit? Okay then.

Kari

Reply to  anonymous

Yes I am serious. There was nothing bullshit about PacRims. if you’re going to pick apart one or two over or underscored routines, gymnastics is not for you, cuz that’s every competition. The Russian Nationals was the worst case of overscoring i’ve seen since 2011. Literally every routine was off by .8, every overall AA score over marked by MINIMUM 2 points.

Hey Russian Federation, this is not the way to give your gymnasts confidence. Still laughing.

I’d love to see you post a breakdown of every single routine with every single score along with proper citation in the Code of points. Until then, you’re just being a USA stan idiot.

hahahaha really lmfao. Like, how do you know i’m a USA stan, because i disagree with you lol?!? Oh jeez, you’re feeling sore in the ass; I can tell by how far that stick is up your butt so i forgive you for running to conclusions much. But Im sorry I hit a sore spot , really; i didn’t realize I was dealing with this level of education where people name-call as their defense. Too bad you’re not being paid to be a clown cuz you are making me laugh (though tbh I’m embarrassed for you too). haahaha

Did they really just gloss over the Tokyo world cup because there supposedly wasn’t anything to say?

Uh… At the VERY least, they could have mentioned Kohei’s absolutely perfect triple twisting double layout off high bar.

I know Spanny doesn’t care about MAG in the slightest (she’s missing out, but whatever), but I would not have expected Uncle Tim to have been so forgetful.

It is impossible to discuss everything in one show. There is so much going on. GymCastic posts videos of routines and comments on them–that is an extension of the show. There were Tokyo World Cup videos, and thanks to GymCastic, was kept in the loop about some of the excitement that went on.

You know I love you guus, but I too felt there was a little more to Russian Championships than Komova’s leotard, Aliya’s spinning (which happens to be her strong point? No American gets chastisized for doing 3 C and 1 B dance elements) and Seda’s beam. Did anyone even catch the fact that Grishina injured herself? Komova’s bhs arabian? Sosnitskaya’s rise to the top over the last year (no matter how much overscoring, she did improve by 7 points since last year’s nationals). Afanasyeva who did a DTY after only two weeks of being back to full training? Who were the junior nationals champions?
And as mentioned before, what about Kohei’s triple twisting double layout dismount?
It could have been mentioned at least.

why does everything about Russia have to be turned around toward america? why can’t anyone here make a point without bringing up the USA, who don’t even belong in the conversation; you guys are more obsessed with ‘Murica than you imagine to be constantly bringing them up. This automatic assumption that to say something negative about Russia means that you’re hell over heels for USA is shallow and stupid. GymCastic criticizes individual Americans for dance, gymnastics style, choreography of routine, and code whoring all the time. Oh, but then everyone was in agreement, so i guess those moments aren’t remembered when its anyone else’s turn.

Because people have been pitting USA against Russia for the last quad? Save any major meltdowns, they’ll go 1-2 in team finals again this year. I’m not a huge fan of either team, but it’s only natural to compare the two.

Besides that, I do agree that the podcast should have included more on Russia’s championships. There was a junior girl with like, a 6.7 D score on beam and a DTY. I believe she’s a 1999 baby, and will probably be a major contender at YOG. But all we care about is Komova wearing a “USA” leotard. (Have we forgotten Russia has the same flag colors? Maybe the poor girl just enjoyed the sparkly accents.)

Not to mention the fact that Russia (likely permanently) lost their third best AAer. Oh well.

I remember having this conversation on here after World’s. The USA girls kicked some serious ass with a medal haul that was insane, and someone’s only comment was not “congrats!” instead was some blather about “I wish their leotards were red, white & blue, and USA written across their chest, and.. and.. and…blah blah blah”

I thought the argument was just silly, but hey, maybe that’s just me. There are at LEAST 22 other countries with red, white and blue as their flag colors, if everyone wore their countries colors, 85% of the countries would look like USA on the floor and USA would look like every other country. There would be little differential.

I think the leo talk is overdone and overemphasized to the point where it’s just silly and redundant. It would be nice to hear more about the gymnastics being done inside the leos and less about the leos themselves.
